Small businesses just got more protection from banks
A new Central Bank SME Customer Protection Regulation came into force on 13 September 2026. Its purpose is specifically to improve how UAE financial institutions deal with small and medium-sized businesses and strengthen SME access to financial products and services.
Why it's worth your time
Small businesses don't always have much bargaining power when dealing with a bank or finance provider. This regulation formally puts SME customers inside a stronger protection framework. If you're borrowing, opening facilities, using business banking products or negotiating finance, this is one worth knowing exists.
